Applicants admitted into the MFAcc Program must have the following—
Canadian Degrees
Applicants admitted into the Masters of Forensic Accounting Program will be admitted under the University of Toronto School of Graduate Studies admission requirements for a master's program which include:
- a four-year bachelor's degree from an approved university;
- a minimum of a mid-B standing (72.5% or 3.0 GPA) in their final undergraduate year (For Canadian universities, please visit the OLSAS Undergraduate Grading System Conversion Table to help guide you in determining whether you meet the minimum GPA requirements for our program).
International Degrees
› Applicants who studied outside of Canada should hold the equivalent of a Canadian 4-year bachelor's degree, with a minimum mid-B average in the final undergraduate year, as assessed by the University of Toronto. Use the International Degree Equivalencies tool to see which international credentials are required for masters and doctoral admissions at UofT.
If your country of study is not noted on the SGS website, a ruling on admissibility may be obtained through the MFAcc office.
Prerequisite Course Requirement
Applicants are required to have completed two introductory accounting courses:
- Introduction to Financial Accounting
- Introduction to Managerial Accounting
Alternatively, applicants must complete these courses prior to joining the program.
English Language Proficiency
You will need to provide evidence of your English proficiency if:
- English is not your first language (i.e., is not the first language you learned at home as a child);
- You have not completed at least four or more years of full-time study at a recognized Canadian school that teaches in English;
- You have not completed at least four or more years of full-time study in an English language school located in a country where the dominant language is English;
- Your first language is not French, and you have not completed four or more years of full-time study at a recognized Canadian school
Proof of English language proficiency must be provided by satisfactory performance on one of the following tests:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) [Institution Code — 4306];
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (offered through a number of locations, for example MELAB.ca);
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS);
- The Certificate of Proficiency in English (COPE)
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)
- CAEL Test measures the English language proficiency of students planning to study at Canadian universities and colleges.
Minimum scores required:
- TOEFL: Total: 100, Writing: 22, Speaking: 22
- IELTS (Academic Version): Overall 7.0 and 6.5 in each component
- COPE Required Score: 76 (with at least 22 in each component and 32 in the writing component).
- CAEL Required score: 70 minimum total score with at least 60 in each part.
- MELAB: 85
NOTE — Results from an English Language Proficiency Test remain valid up to 2 years from the date of testing.

Professional Experience
Two years of relevant experience in Accounting, Business, or Law is required for entry into the MFAcc Program.
Reference Letters
Two letters of recommendation are required. One letter of recommendation must be from your current employer.
The recommendation letter should cover:
- an evaluation of your knowledgeability and academic background
- and/or professional experiences
- evaluate extra-curricular activities and accomplishments that demonstrate significant leadership abilities
Choosing your references with care is an important part of the application process. In general, it is best to avoid choosing references of a personal nature.
Application Fee
An application fee of CAD $303.50 is required.
» Applying to MFAcc
Applications to the MFAcc Program are open and close on June, 15 2024. All applications are submitted online through the application portal. Applications are for the following academic year.
MFAcc has an annual start date in September. Our next intake is for September 2024.
If you feel you meet the above requirements then you should complete the online application. The MFAcc Program Admissions Committee only reviews completed application packages: upon submission of all required documents, including the application fee. Please note applicants need not wait until they have all required documents ready to open their online application file. To open the online application, only completing the application form and paying the application fee is required. Required documents can be submitted as they become available (but must be submitted by the application deadline).
